Shopify disputes: store access, IP rights and payments.
The cause determines whom to approach.
Is your store unavailable, are you facing a copyright complaint, or have Shopify Payments payouts been paused? We advise store operators on disputes with Shopify and unfounded IP reports. We also take action against copied stores and misuse of your trademark.
Store access, content and payment processing are separate matters. Even if a store is reopened, restrictions on Shopify Payments may remain. A separately connected PayPal account requires a further, separate assessment.
01
Reviewing store closure and appeal options
We examine the closure notice, alleged breaches, documents requested and previous appeals. How the store was actually used and the identity of the contracting party provide the basis for a reasoned response.
02
Copyright, trademarks and unfounded reports
We examine rights in product images, text, trademarks and listings. A content complaint requires different evidence from a question about a business’s identity. If a report is unfounded, action against the reporting party may be appropriate alongside a response to the platform.
If payouts are missing, we review Payments notices, transaction reports and reserve terms. Your particular contract determines which company or payment service is involved. Reopening the store alone does not resolve a payment dispute.
04
A fake store using your trademark or product images
Our published case report documents the out-of-court removal of a fake store hosted on Shopify following our action. This was an IP dispute concerning another party’s store, not the reinstatement of a merchant account or a court judgment. That particular outcome does not replace an assessment of your case.
Even without an active suspension, we advise on store terms, the ordering process and contracts with agencies or service providers. Businesses selling on several platforms should consider legal requirements and contractual dependencies together.
For Shopify store operators, brands and online retailers
My Shopify store is unavailable following a complaint.
We review the notice, the disputed content and your rights in products, images or trademarks. For an appeal, we organise the relevant evidence and the history of the matter.
My store is working, but Shopify Payments is not paying out.
A payment restriction is a different matter from store closure. We review payment terms, payout reports and the evidence requested, and identify the responsible contracting party.
First, briefly describe the facts. We will coordinate with you how to submit further documents.

Questions & answers.
Does a judgment concerning another platform automatically apply to Shopify?
No. Similar legal questions may provide guidance, but they do not replace a review of the Shopify contracts, parties and action taken. We identify such comparisons and do not claim that there is a general rule requiring Shopify to reinstate a store.
My store is running, but Shopify Payments is not paying out.
The payment restriction then requires a separate review. Store access and Payments may involve different reviews and appeal procedures. If another payment provider is involved, its contractual terms must also be considered.
Will a DMCA counter-notice address every complaint?
No. The DMCA concerns US copyright procedures. Before submitting a counter-notice, the type of complaint, the rights involved and the legal declarations must be reviewed. Trademark claims and payment restrictions involve different requirements.
